Germany-based retail giant Metro Cash & Carry kick-started an aggressive expansion in India with plans of adding at least 7-8 new wholesale stores within 2012 with an estimated investment of around Rs 550 crore. The firm that entered India in 2003 said it has identified 40 top cities in the country to expand presence in the coming years.  Currently, the company operates nine stores in India whereas globally it has around 700 stores across 30 countries. In India, Metro has so far invested close to Rs 1,000 crore. Gradual expansion of mega retail stores will be a new business opportunity for the signage companies, such as PSPs, fabricators, sign suppliers, etc for new business stake in the sector.
