Shoppers Stop plans Rs 400 crore expansion

In the next four years, Shoppers Stop will invest up to Rs 400 crores to expand its operations all across the country. Half the amount will go into opening 25 new Shoppers Stop department stores in existing as well as in new cities. The balance will be used to set up 16 new Hypercity formats. The company will focus on reducing the size of its Hypercity formats to 50,000 sq ft from its current 80,000 sq ft in Tier II cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jaipur and Bhopal. The rapid expansion plan of Shoppers’ Stop will bring in new business opportunities for the signage companies dealing in in-store displays and others in the retail sector.
