Metro Cash & Carry to open its first small-format store

Metro Cash & Carry is opening its first small-format store in Tumkur, Karnataka. The store will employ about 200 people and is spread across 25,000 sq ft, less than the 50,000 sq ft that its large format stores occupy in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. The move mirrors that of Swedish retail majors like IKEA, which is also looking to open smaller-sized stores to reach more customers. Metro Cash & Carry operates 27 stores in India and competes in the B2B wholesale market with leading brands like Walmart, Lots Wholesale, etc. Opening of new small-format Metro Cash & Carry stores in the country will bring a new business opportunity for the signage players engaging in in-store branding and graphic projects.
