Xiaomi eyes retail expansion in India to mark 10,000 outlets

Chinese smart phone maker Xiaomi is making a huge investment towards expanding its offline presence in India to increase its sales and maintain its leadership in the highly competitive market. The company is targeting 50 percent of handset sales to come from the offline channel this year against 40 percent currently. As per Counterpoint Research, Xiaomi led India’s smartphone market with 28 percent market share for the calendar year 2018, having recorded highest ever shipments in the country. Xiaomi plans to take its overall retail shop count to over 10,000 from around 6,000 now. It is now piloting a new retail format, Mi Studio, to penetrate Tier II and Tier II markets. Xiaomi’s retail shop expansion plan will erupt a fresh business opportunity for the signage companies whose activities involve in in-store projects.
