Siam Makro, a leading retailer based in Bangkok, is becoming the latest foreign retailer after Metro, Walmart and the UK’s Booker to start a 100 percent cash-and-carry operation in India. The Thai retailer is looking to start its operations from north India in the coming years. Cash-and-carry is currently a Rs 6,800-crore market in India, and has been growing at an annual rate of 13 percent, faster than modern trade but on a lower base. Analysts said this development is an added business opportunity for the signage players whose activities predominantly revolve around in-shop displays, designs and such tasks.
