Retail players target Tier II cities, industrial townships

Industrial townships and tier II cities are emerging as new retail centres, according to retail IT solutions provider Ginesys. As per the study, ‘Indian Retail Footprint-2013’, locations such as Gwalior, Dhanbad, Vijayawada, Vizag, Surat, Pune, Chandigarh are witnessing high penetration of retailers. The study, for which data collected from over 500 retailers, saw the rise in discretionary/per capita income has given a boost to retail consumption in tier II cities and towns. At the same time, these towns and cities have witnessed rapid improvements in infrastructure and logistics enabling retailers to set up outlets to cater to the demand. This is indeed a good news for the signage companies dealing in in-store displays, designs, branding and others.
