Chinese mobile phone firm Gionee to open 250 brand stores in India

Chinese smartphone-maker, Gionee Smartphone, is planning expansion to capture larger pie of the smartphone market segment in India. The company has laid out a retail expansion plan by opening 250 brand stores by this fiscal-end. It has already opened 12 stores nationally, including one at Ahmedabad. The company has overall market share of 4-5 per cent in the smartphone segment in the country. In Gujarat, the company has about 10 per cent market share and in Rajasthan they hold 20 per cent market share. Gionee also plans to open 2,500 shop-in-shops this year and will also increase its service centres to 750 from 700. Signage players engaging in in-shop branding, displays and related activities will get added business opportunities in such mega expansion plan of the Chinese firm in the retail sector.
