Apple in proposal of company-owned retail stores

Apple has resubmitted its application to open company-owned retail stores in India, after filling in information it missed in the initial filing. The application under the single brand rules has been filed with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). DIPP asked the company to submit a revised application due to gaps in the information provided. Apple’s fresh application is now being examined by the department, a source mentioned. Apple currently sells its products in India through a network of franchisee-owned stores. The government allowed 100 percent foreign direct investment in single-brand retail in 2012. If Apple succeeds in the approach, signage players engaging in in-shop designs, displays and designs may get fresh business opportunity.
